With pumpkins to pick, Halloween trails to follow, animals to meet and castles to explore, there are plenty of family-friendly days out happening across North Wales this October.
The 2026 autumn half-term holiday runs from Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October across North Wales, with many attractions extending their Halloween activities across the weekends either side too.
Whether you’re a local family looking for somewhere new to explore or you’re visiting North Wales for an autumn break, we’ve picked out some of the best family-friendly October half term activities in North Wales for 2026.
📍 Y Felinheli, Gwynedd
📅 24 October – 1 November 2026
GreenWood Family Park is getting a Halloween makeover for half term with the return of SpookWood.
Designed to be spooky rather than scary, SpookWood is suitable for families with children of all ages and combines GreenWood’s usual rides and attractions with plenty of seasonal fun.
For 2026 there’s a new Pumpkin Trail, with a free pumpkin for every child, plus pumpkin-carving stations where everything you need is provided.
Families can also look out for Halloween decorations and photo opportunities, Forest Theatre shows and a Best Dressed competition, so fancy dress is definitely encouraged.
For children — and grown-ups — looking for something a little more daring, there’s also Dragon in the Dark, where riders can take on the Green Dragon Roller Coaster blindfolded! All of the park’s usual attractions are open throughout SpookWood too, including Solar Splash, the Enchanted River Ride and Giant Jumping Pillow.
Why families might love it: There’s enough here for a full day out rather than just a short Halloween activity, and the focus is firmly on fun rather than frightening younger visitors.
📍 Abergele, Conwy County
📅 Selected dates throughout October 2026
If pumpkin picking is on your October half-term list, Pumpkin Fest at Manorafon Farm Park is one to consider.
Families can head into the PYO pumpkin patch to choose their perfect pumpkin, while the Pumpkin Market is filled with pumpkins and gourds in all sorts of shapes, colours and sizes.
A standard orange pumpkin is included with every daytime child ticket, and there are plenty of activities once you’ve finished searching the patch.
Children can follow their Pumpkin Passport, meet creepy critters, get involved with pumpkin carving and watch the family-friendly Pumpkin Village show featuring Cai the Dragon Rider and Emberwing the dragon.
There are also roaming autumn characters, Halloween photo spots and an optional Slime Lab.
Best of all, daytime Pumpkin Fest tickets also include entry to the farm park, so families can meet the animals and make use of the play areas during their visit.
If your children can stay up a little later, Manorafon also runs Pumpkin Fest Nights, with an illuminated pumpkin patch, Halloween lights, entertainment and fire shows.
Why families might love it: Pumpkin picking, animals, play areas and Halloween activities can all be combined into one day.
📍 Llyn Brenig, Conwy County
📅 28–31 October 2026
⏰ 10am–2pm, last trail entry 1.30pm
💰 Free
For a more relaxed — and free — half-term activity, head to Llyn Brenig for its family-friendly Halloween Trail.
Children will need to put their detective skills to work as they search for clues hidden around the Visitor Centre.
There are also Halloween craft activities taking place in the Osprey Room.
Llyn Brenig describes the event as offering just the right amount of spooky fun for families, so it could be a particularly good choice for younger children who don’t want anything too frightening.
You can also make more of your visit by exploring Llyn Brenig itself. The site has walking routes, an adventure playground, visitor centre and café, so the Halloween trail could easily become part of a longer autumn day outdoors.
Why families might love it: It’s free, child-friendly and easy to combine with a walk, playground visit or lunch overlooking the reservoir.
📍 Talacre, Flintshire
📅 26–29 October 2026
For something fun, educational and — importantly for October in North Wales — mostly indoors, try DangerPoint in Talacre.
During half term, children can become Danger Detectives, following a self-guided trail through realistic sets and interactive scenarios while searching for everyday dangers and solving clues.
The main Danger Detective Quest is best suited to children aged five and above. Younger children can join in with the Treasure Hunt instead.
For Halloween, families can also take part in a Spooky Treasure Hunt, searching the centre for hidden ghosts with a spooky treat waiting for successful detectives.
DangerPoint is designed like a film set, taking families through settings including a home, beach, countryside and playground while teaching children about safety in an interactive way.
Half-term sessions run from Monday 26 to Thursday 29 October and booking is recommended in advance.
Why families might love it: A genuinely useful rainy-day option where children can have fun while learning without it feeling like a school lesson.
📍 Mancot, Flintshire
📅 24 October – 1 November 2026
Animals and Halloween might just be the perfect half-term combination.
Greenacres Animal Park is running its Halloween celebrations during the school holidays, with activities for the whole family alongside the park’s animals.
Children can meet some of Greenacres’ creepier residents during the Creepy Crawly Animal Meet & Greet, get creative with pumpkin carving and decorating and follow a spooky treasure hunt around the park to find hidden clues and claim a treat.
There’s also a Halloween-themed tractor ride and, for those feeling brave enough, a Haunted Barn.
Greenacres is home to more than 50 species of exotic and farm animals, including capybaras, meerkats, lemurs, camels, reptiles and birds. There’s also indoor soft play and an outdoor play area, giving families plenty to do beyond the Halloween activities.
Why families might love it: Particularly good for animal-loving children, with Halloween activities mixed into a traditional family day at the zoo.
If you’ve already tried the activities above — or you’re looking to fill a few more days of the school holiday — there are plenty more family events happening around North Wales.
📍 Wrexham
📅 23 October – 1 November 2026
Discover something a little different this Halloween at Erddig, where the focus is on the Welsh traditions and folklore of Calan Gaeaf.
Families can follow separate trails through the historic house and autumn garden, encountering characters and stories inspired by Welsh myths and folklore while solving puzzles along the way.
There are also seasonal family activities on selected dates, including crafts, wishstone making, pumpkin carving and lantern decorating.
It’s a lovely choice if you’d like to combine Halloween fun with Welsh culture, history and an autumn walk around the estate.
Why families might love it: Gentle Halloween fun combined with storytelling, crafts and lots of space to explore.
📍 Conwy
📅 26–27 October 2026
Things are getting spooky at one of North Wales’ most famous castles.
During half term, Conwy Castle is running special child-friendly spooky tours where families can learn about the castle’s friendly ghosts and some of the stranger sides of medieval life.
Expect tales of knights with questionable table manners, gruesome medieval cures and the castle’s prison tower.
Tours last around 30 minutes and take place at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October. Tickets for the tour cost £3 in addition to normal castle admission, and advance booking isn’t required.
Why families might love it: A good option for children who enjoy castles and history but want a little Halloween fun thrown in too.
📍 Beaumaris, Anglesey
📅 31 October 2026
If you’re spending Halloween itself on Anglesey, head to Beaumaris Castle for a family-friendly spooky trail.
Children can search the castle for gruesome characters before visiting the resident witches in the creepy craft room and making a scary creation to take home.
Halloween chocolate prizes will also be available after completing the trail while stocks last, and no advance event booking is required.
You could turn it into a full family day out by spending some time exploring Beaumaris before or after your castle visit.
Why families might love it: Castles, crafts and a Halloween trail without anything too frightening for younger visitors.
From pumpkin picking and animal encounters to spooky trails, castles and outdoor adventures, there’s plenty happening across North Wales this October half term.
